A DREAM COME TRUE
From a very early age it was my dream to be an Indiana State Trooper. Along about age 5 Mom and Dad took me to the Indiana State Fair. During that visit I wondered away from them and they fearing me lost went to the Indiana State Police Display under the old grandstand to see if they had found any lost children on the grounds. When they walked into the display they discovered me there talking to the troopers.
The desire never went away. The day before I graduated from Bunker Hill High School I twisted Dad’s arm into signing his name the required 26 times so I could enlist in the United States Army. I wanted to have that out of the way by the time I was old enough for the Indiana State Police Academy. After the Army stint I worked at the Chrysler factory in Kokomo to mark time til my 21st birthday so I could sign up.
The path was a little different than I had expected but a communications job came open at the Peru Post. Jack Rich was the second operations clerk at Peru Post and when he was appointed trooper I was hired on 071661 to replace Jack as the third operations clerk at the old Peru Post 3-A. I worked there until being accepted to the first of two recruit schools in 1964.

I was appointed trooper on 090164 and assigned to Dunes Park.
After the training period the county of assignment was Marshall.
