The 50 years between 1961 and 2011 years sure went by in a hurry
From a very early age it was my dream to be an Indiana State Trooper. Along about age 5 Mom and Dad took me to the Indiana State Fair. During that visit I wondered away from them and they fearing me lost went to the Indiana State Police Display under the old grandstand to see if they had found any lost children on the grounds. When they walked into the display they discovered me there talking to the troopers.
The desire never went away. The day before I graduated from Bunker Hill High School I twisted Dad’s arm into signing his name the required 26 times so I could enlist in the United States Army. I wanted to have that out of the way by the time I was old enough for the
The path was a little different than I had expected but a communications job came open at the Peru Post. Jack Rich was the second operations clerk at Peru Post and when he was appointed trooper off the 1960 waiting list I was hired on 071661 to replace Jack as the third operations clerk at the old Peru Post 3-A. I worked there until being accepted to the first of two recruit schools in 1964.
